The Bed & Breakfast lies on the western side of the City in the Serenada development that was started during the 70's. Homes sit on 1/2 + acres and exhibit the original stone quarried from the building sites. Serenada is two miles from the Sun City entrance, five miles from St. David's Hospital, and three miles from the Historic Downtown District that display historical buildings such as the museum, jail and courthouse. One can shop beautiful local specialty stores, dine at excellent rustic and specialty eating establishments on the square, see local and university talent at the Palace Theatre and Southwestern University that is another mile from town. There are two local outside shopping areas, one 12 screen theatre.
There are 3 mapped, safe walking areas from the B & B, bicycle trails on open road and throughout the 28 miles of cemented walks on the San Gabriel river, two disc golf courses, geocaching sites (may rent a GPS at the B & B), multiple quality golf courses, and community swimming pools. The city presents 2nd Saturday Market Days with numerous exhibitors from March through December, 1st Friday late evening shopping March through December to 8pm, the Christmas Stroll during December, and the Red Poppy Festival in late April.
The Glass Chapel shows many stained glass pieces made by the late owner, Foots Wallace, and continued by his daughter Judith and son-in-law, Gary Carver. Both are retired; she from 30+ years of nursing and teaching and Gary can boast more than 20 years of teaching 8th graders math and algebra. |

With a rich and varied past, Georgetown offers the historical traveler a unique and personal
glimpse into Central Texas' past. Founded in 1848 by Thomas B. Huling and George Washington Glasscock (for whom the town was named), Georgetown began as a frontier town but quickly grew into a town of great promise as a permanent courthouse was constructed (1880), the state's oldest college, Southwestern University, was built (1873), and the railroad arrived (1878).
Starting in the 1880s expansion began in downtown that is evidenced in the limestone masonry and Victorian detailing that we see today in Central Georgetown. In 1982, the city joined the national Main Street Project, piloted by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, in an effort to give new life to the historical treasures that line the Square. Due to this effort, the courthouse square is home to thriving businesses and has become a center for culture, hosting art shows, festivals and live music.* |
